Hey Rick, it was good to hear you guys back again and drinking together. I listened to your show on my drive home last night and it was good to hear your roundtable discussion. It was surprising that at the end of that, you guys weren't absolutely hammered. Sounds like a royal treat whenever you guys pull out beers like this. Seriously rare stuff that has been stored properly - sounds like you guys really enjoyed yourselves revisiting those barley wines. It was good to hear Tracy there as well. She's a hardcore beer geek, and I love it!!
And I agree that a lot of barley wines tend to taste like old ales. It really does seem to make sense, since you're talking about a beer that is brewed to be aged for a long time. It has never been my favorite style, but I do enjoy it from time to time (when I have someone to share it with). I could never have done TEN of these, though. Grin
Shame about that 2006 Rogue Old Crustacean. Mark was not afraid to slam that beer, and hats off to him for that. And Rick, I have been in your shoes on more than one occasion. When you said "I did not think this was the direction this show was going to take!" I really felt for you. Been there. But sometimes a beer (or whatever you're tasting on your show) will steer you in a different direction when you finally get down to tasting it. Surprising that it didn't hold up, being only 3 years old, but it happens.
I still don't know how you can taste that many high ABV beers and not get annihilated, but glad to hear you guys back at it.
